Nov. 3, 1880: A Thanksgiving-night farewell supper. Thanksgiving Day in 1880 fell on Wednesday, Nov. 3, and that evening about 40 people sat down to a farewell supper at the Revere Hotel, whose proprietor was retiring from business. The Markdale Standard reported it two days later. The meal was "got up in" the host's "usual style," the paper said, adding that no further praise was needed. There was no room for a full report, it explained, but "the usual toasts were drank and responded to, and a very pleasant evening was passed."
