Four inches of snow, and a village "mixed up" after Hallowe'en night.

Nov. 1, 1883: Snow the morning after Hallowe'en. Markdale woke to "about four inches of snow" on Thursday, Nov. 1, 1883, the Markdale Standard noted in that day's paper. The same column of short local items hinted at a busy Hallowe'en: "Last night was halloweve; dear-o-dear how things are mixed up this morning." Farm life went on regardless. "Grain is now coming in freely," the paper reported. It also told readers to keep their feet dry.
