Nov. 2, 1917: Flesherton marks 400 years since Luther. Flesherton's churches came together on Friday evening, Nov. 2, 1917, for a union service in the Baptist chapel. It marked what the Flesherton Advance called "the birth of religious freedom through the instrumentality of Luther." The three resident ministers were the speakers, the paper reported the next week. The service fell two days after the 400th anniversary of Oct. 31, 1517, the day Martin Luther is said to have posted his 95 theses. It came in a year of war.
