A 52-year-old Hanover man has been charged with child luring offences following an undercover online investigation by the Greater Sudbury Police Service, police said in an Oct. 29 news release.
Greater Sudbury Police say their Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit launched the undercover investigation in March 2026, targeting people who were using the internet to communicate with and lure children for a sexual purpose.
On Oct. 27, members of the Greater Sudbury Police ICE Unit and Computer Forensic Unit, working with the Peel Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit and its Electronic Storage Detection K9, as well as the Ontario Provincial Police Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, executed a search warrant in Hanover, police said. According to the release, the K9 located several devices, which were seized.
Police say 52-year-old Paul Garvey was arrested and charged with two counts of luring a person under the age of 16 years and one count of making sexually explicit material available to a child.
Investigators believe Garvey used the social media account @Hiltonhaven and the email address hiltpaul50@gmail.com while communicating with and attempting to lure youth online, police said.
According to police, Garvey attended bail court on Oct. 27 and has since been released through the judicial process.
The same investigation led to the arrest on Sept. 15 of a 66-year-old man, Thomas Gallagher, with help from the Waterloo Regional Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit. Police say he is charged with two counts of luring a person under the age of 16 years and remains in custody. Police described both men as being from southern Ontario.
The charges have not been proven in court.
Greater Sudbury Police ask anyone with information about either man to contact their local police service.
