Here's what's on around Chatsworth this Halloween weekend, plus a reminder that the clocks change on Sunday.
Hanover: Trick or Treat Trail and 10th Street closure, Friday
The Town of Hanover says 10th Street will be closed between 7th Avenue and 13th Avenue on Friday, Oct. 30, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the 13th annual Trick or Treat Trail. Treats will be handed out by participating members of the community from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The town says a Hanover Police Service cruiser will be at the west end of the closure and a Hanover Fire Department truck at the east end. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and plan other routes. Residents should move vehicles off that stretch of 10th Street before 3 p.m. For more on the trail, the town directs people to the Hanover Chamber of Commerce.
Owen Sound: River District Trick-or-Treat Trail, Saturday
The City of Owen Sound says the River District's annual Trick-or-Treat Trail runs Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with more than 32 participating businesses. The event is free. Maps will be on the event page and at the United Way Bruce Grey tent in front of City Hall. There are no street closures, and free parking is available throughout the River District, the city says.
In Chatsworth
The Township of Chatsworth's events calendar doesn't list a Halloween event. It does list public skating on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. Check the township website for details.
Safety tips
The OPP shared these general Halloween safety tips through Huron County OPP:
- Trick-or-treaters should use sidewalks where there are any, and cross at crosswalks.
- Dress children in bright colours so drivers can see them, and make sure masks or face coverings don't block their vision.
- Set up a buddy system so no one walks home alone.
- Drivers should expect more pedestrians, slow down and watch for children stepping out from between parked cars or behind shrubs.
- Never use or look at your phone while driving.
Halloween weather
Environment Canada's forecast for Owen Sound, issued at 5 a.m. Friday, calls for a mainly sunny Halloween with fog patches clearing in the morning and a high of 11°C. Saturday night is expected to be clear with a low of plus 2. Sunday looks sunny with a high of 15. Forecasts change, so check again before heading out.
Clocks go back Sunday
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, when clocks go back one hour. It's a good time to test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
