A 41-year-old Grey Highlands resident has been charged after police found about 7,000 unmarked cigarettes in a vehicle stopped at a RIDE check, Grey Bruce OPP said in a news release Monday.
Officers were running the RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check on West Back Line in the Municipality of Grey Highlands at about 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they stopped a vehicle, police said.
According to police, officers saw cannabis in the vehicle and began an investigation. They searched the vehicle and found about 7,000 unmarked cigarettes, police said.
The driver is charged with:
- Driving a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available, under the Cannabis Control Act
- Possessing unmarked cigarettes, under the Tobacco Tax Act
- Using a plate not authorized for the vehicle, under the Highway Traffic Act
A passenger in the vehicle was also charged with a seatbelt offence under the Highway Traffic Act, police said.
Both have been given a future court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound, police said. The release did not give the date.
The charges have not been proven in court.
