Drivers on three township roads should expect construction into the last week of October, according to a road construction notice posted by the Township of Chatsworth.
The notice, dated Aug. 25, lists the following schedule:
- Sideroad 60/Concession 10: Sept. 14 to Oct. 27
- Concession 2: Sept. 25 to Oct. 29
- Concession 3A: Sept. 25 to Oct. 29
The notice gives dates only. It doesn't describe the work being done or say whether detours are in place.
Roads on the campaign trail
The condition of township roads has been a major theme in this fall's election. At the Oct. 6 all-candidates meeting in Williamsford, residents asked about the backlog identified in the township's roads needs assessment, according to the Owen Sound Current. Several candidates named roads and bridges as their top priority, the Current reported, and some said certain surface-treated roads may return to gravel.
Both mayoral candidates, who sit on the current council, pointed to work already done, the Current reported. Coun. Shawn Greig said the township bought equipment to clear brush so roads drain, replaced a bridge on Side Road 9A with culverts and used a steel plate to keep a low-traffic road on Concession 12 open. Deputy Mayor Terry McKay said the township uses traffic counts to decide which roads to upgrade, and that this year's asphalt came in below budget.
Councillor candidate Brenda Robertson told the meeting that the township's 2026 budget put some road and bridge upgrades on hold to keep the tax increase down, according to the Current. The Banner has not independently confirmed that claim.
Chatsworth votes on Monday, Oct. 26.
Residents with questions about the work can contact the Township Office at 316837 Highway 6, or by phone at 519-794-3232, according to the township's contact page.
