The Tara Area Food Bank has received $41,700 from 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce, the largest donation in the giving circle's history.
The group's website lists the gift as chosen at its Sept. 12 meeting. The site's list of past recipients shows that no earlier donation was larger. The previous high was $40,000, given in May to tenthirtyfive Grey Bruce.
"Every member makes this possible," Lynda Legge, chair of 100 Women Who Care Grey Bruce, said in an announcement published by the Saugeen Times. "When hundreds of women each commit to giving, we can make a significant difference for organizations doing vital work in our communities."
The food bank spends more than $1,300 each week buying food to keep its shelves stocked, according to the announcement. "We are very grateful for the amazing support of individuals, churches, service clubs, businesses and community groups throughout Tara and the surrounding area, as well as Grey-Bruce Food Share and, of course, this incredible donation," Anne Crocker, a member of the food bank's board, said in the same announcement.
