Bruce–Grey–Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff presented a petition in the House of Commons on Oct. 9 asking Ottawa to stop Canada Post service cuts, according to the official Hansard record of that day's sitting.
Ruff, a Conservative, said he was presenting it "on behalf of my constituents who have pointed out that Canada Post and the governing Liberals are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services, eliminating good jobs, eliminating door-to-door delivery and lowering mail delivery standards."
The petitioners also say the cuts "have not been released publicly" and will "disproportionately" affect seniors, disabled Canadians, rural Canadians, and remote and Indigenous populations, Ruff told the House.
He said the petitioners are calling on the government "to stop these postal service cuts and to immediately launch a full, transparent, mandated review of Canada Post that allows all stakeholders to provide meaningful input."
Those are the petitioners' claims as Ruff presented them. The Banner has not confirmed how many people signed the petition, and has not confirmed whether the government has responded. The Hansard record gives neither.
