The City of Owen Sound wants to hear from residents, visitors and businesses about what its downtown River District streets should look like.
The city announced a survey for its River District Streetscape Renewal Plan in a news release on Oct. 15. The plan "will identify opportunities to create a renewed and attractive, inviting, vibrant streetscape and public spaces that support the River District as Owen Sound's primary commercial area," the release says.
The plan focuses on streetscape improvements, including "seating, landscaping, wayfinding, lighting, public art, pedestrian amenities, and other features," the city said. It's one part of a broader set of city initiatives to "improve safety and vibrancy, and support economic vitality" in the area. A separate River District Action Plan Update is looking at branding, management, promotion and experience development.
The city is working with O2 Planning and Design, a multidisciplinary design company, on the project. The Owen Sound River District BIA was established in 1973 and supports more than 200 businesses, according to the city.
The survey is open until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at ourcity.owensound.ca/river-district-streetscape-renewal. Questions can go to Viveca Gravel, River District Coordinator, at 519-376-4440 ext. 1209 or vgravel@owensound.ca.
