TC Transcontinental will close its RBW Graphics printing plant in Owen Sound at the end of January 2027, putting about 360 people out of work, the company announced Wednesday, Oct. 14.
In a news release, the company said continued productivity improvements and changes in its product mix allow it to consolidate production at other facilities. "We sincerely regret the impact on our approximately 360 employees, their families and the Owen Sound community," chief operating officer Patrick Brayley said in the release. The company says it will support workers, including through career transition services.
Staff were told at a meeting Wednesday afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Bayshore Broadcasting reported. Brayley told the station the work will move to five other company plants. He told the Owen Sound Sun Times the company aims to keep the plant "quite busy" until the end of January.
MPP Paul Vickers called the closure "deeply disappointing" in a statement to the Banner on Oct. 15, and said the province "stands ready to support workers."
The Owen Sound plant was not part of TC Transcontinental's sale of its packaging business. The company sold that division to Cincinnati-based ProAmpac Holdings Inc. for about $2.1 billion in a deal announced Dec. 8, 2025, and completed March 6, 2026, according to TC's news releases. TC's investor materials list Owen Sound among the 17 sites of its Retail Services and Printing sector, and its Oct. 14 release describes the closure as part of the "optimization of its integrated national printing network."
It isn't yet known how many of the affected workers live in Chatsworth. The Banner has put questions to the company and Grey County, and will have more as the story develops.

A longtime employee who lives in Chatsworth told the Banner that staff "did not know anything for sure till the meeting on Wednesday" and that "no severance information has been given to us yet."
