The Municipality of Meaford will start rebuilding the entrance road to Memorial Park, 179 Grant Ave., on Monday, Oct. 26, the municipality says. Final paving is expected in spring 2027.
The existing 3.5-metre road will be replaced with a 5-metre road, leaving more room for pedestrians, according to the municipality's notice of construction. The project also adds lighting, speed barriers and signage. The project page lists the anticipated final paving date as April 30, 2027.
The municipality says there will be no road closures, detours or delays on Grant Avenue. The park will stay open, with vehicle and pedestrian access maintained, but parking will be available in the lower area only. Camping is closed for the season. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
A staff report to council's Oct. 5 meeting recommended awarding the work to E.C. King Contracting for $232,657, including the municipality's share of HST. E.C. King was the lowest of four bidders, at $268,999, and the price was negotiated down to reflect a reduced scope, the report says. Council awarded the contract to E.C. King, Bayshore Broadcasting reported. The project page lists a budget of $233,000 from the Memorial Park Reserve Fund.
The staff report said the work would take about 12 working days and that the exit road would serve as a shared entrance until construction is done. It also said the road had been approved in the 2024 capital budget and carried forward.
Residents nearby should expect some noise, dust and vibration, the notice says. The municipality won't be responsible for items owners have installed in the road allowance, such as sprinklers or landscaping.
