Grey Roots Museum & Archives reopens to the public today, Thursday, Oct. 15, after a month-long closure for a roof replacement.
Grey County announced the closure on Sept. 8. The museum shut on Sept. 15, and the building, exhibits and public programs were off limits until Oct. 14, the county said.
"This investment will help protect the museum and its collections for years to come," Jill Paterson, Grey Roots' manager of museum and archives, said in the county's announcement.
Grey Roots' website says the museum is back to its regular hours, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is on Grey Road 18 near Owen Sound.
What's on
The museum's reopening page lists a busy fall:
- PA Day, Friday, Oct. 16: Moreston Heritage Village opens from 1 to 3 p.m. for the PA Day only, alongside a cooking activity, the museum says.
- Wood Symposium 2026, Oct. 16–18: hosted at Grey Roots by Intersections Wood Collaborative.
- Fall Lecture Series: Tuesday afternoons from Oct. 20 to Nov. 10 in the Thomas Wheildon Theatre.
- Exhibits: Hometown Hockey, on Owen Sound's hockey history; Local Stories: Changing Weather, developed by the Georgian Bluffs Climate Action Team; and Living Histories: Grey County, a photo exhibit.
- Moreston by Candlelight: Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, 4 to 8 p.m.
Grey Roots is run by Grey County and holds the county's museum collection and archives. Its contact details are on greyroots.com.
