Grey Bruce OPP have charged four drivers with impaired driving in Southgate and Georgian Bluffs since Oct. 2, according to police posts. None of the charges has been proven in court.
Southgate, Oct. 2. Officers on patrol saw a vehicle on a closed section of Southgate Road 22 heading toward Highway 10, police said. A 54-year-old Dundalk resident is charged with operation while impaired by alcohol, operation with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 or more, and driving on a closed highway.
Georgian Bluffs, Oct. 3. A caller reported a vehicle speeding, weaving and crossing into oncoming traffic, police said. Officers found it on Girl Guide Road near Grey Road 17, where police say it failed to make a turn and went into the ditch. A 61-year-old South Bruce Peninsula resident is charged with two impaired operation offences and dangerous operation.
Southgate, Oct. 10. Police said they investigated a commercial vehicle driver. A 50-year-old Grey Highlands resident faces Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act charges, including impaired operation, operation while prohibited and driving while under suspension. Police impounded the commercial vehicle for seven days.
Southgate, Oct. 12. A driver called police about a single-vehicle collision, and officers saw signs of impairment, police said. The crash was on Southgate Road 10 between Southgate Sideroads 13 and 15, the Owen Sound Current reported, citing an OPP release. A 41-year-old Clarence-Rockland resident is charged with impaired operation, operation while impaired (blood alcohol concentration), careless driving, and having an open container of liquor.
All four are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound in November, the Current reported: the Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 accused on Nov. 12, the Oct. 10 accused on Nov. 19 and the Oct. 12 accused on Nov. 26.
In each case the driver also received a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment, according to police. Those are automatic penalties under provincial law.
The OPP asks anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 911.
