Grey County is opening the doors of its newest paramedic base, south of Feversham, to the public on Friday, Oct. 23.
The open house runs from noon to 2 p.m. at 494140 Grey Road 2, according to a county news release. An official ribbon cutting is set for 1:45 p.m.
Visitors can tour the building, learn about paramedic services, and see paramedic vehicles and equipment up close, the county says.
"If you have ever wanted to see inside an ambulance, see inside a base, or ask a Grey County paramedic a question, this is your opportunity," Grey County Paramedic Chief Kevin McNab said in the release.
A permanent home
The county says the new base provides a permanent home for paramedic crews serving the area. It was built by Domm Construction Ltd. The total cost, including professional fees and site preparation, is $2.4 million, according to the release.
The base is part of a county-wide plan for paramedic services across Grey.
It is one of four additional bases in Grey County's capital and operational plans, the county says. Future bases are being considered for Ayton, Thornbury and Cobble Beach, based on forecast population growth.
Demand rising
The county's Paramedic Services Comprehensive Deployment Review projects a 68 per cent increase in call volumes across Grey County between 2023 and 2033, according to the release. A separate county release says paramedics responded to more than 17,000 calls in 2025, the highest annual total in the service's history.
"When an accident or medical emergency happens, Grey County residents and visitors should feel confident help will arrive quickly," Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs said in the release. "Grey County is investing in our paramedic services not just to meet the needs of our community today, but for years to come."
The county says an update to the Comprehensive Services Review will go to county council late this year or early in 2027.
