Thirteen local businesses and organizations are helping the Township of Chatsworth Fire Department put safety booklets in the hands of young people this year.
With their support, the department "will be able to distribute 150 youth Fire Safety booklets and 60 Rural Safety booklets to the youth in our community," it said in a notice about its 2026 Smart Choices for Life campaign. Fire Chief Mike Givens sent the notice to The Banner on Oct. 15 and followed up with a corrected version the same morning.
"The leadership of our community partners is a vital part of raising awareness about the importance of safety education – a worthwhile investment that benefits the entire community," the department said.
The notice thanks these sponsors: Euro Market, Gibson's Honey, Huron Tractor, Miller Veterinary Service, Moore's Meats Butcher Shop, Michael's Stabling Developments, Nuhn's Auto, Pet Supply Warehouse, Riverside Auto Service, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 464, Six & Ten Mini Mart, Sunbelt Rentals and Williamsford Pie Company.
The department's notice doesn't say when or where the booklets will be handed out.
It also carries a standing reminder: "Only Working Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms Save Lives. Test Operation Monthly."
For more information about the campaign, the department lists 519-794-3188 and firedept@chatsworth.ca.
